Motorcycle riding was booming during the 1980s and 1990s. And during that period, the wise workers in Harley-Davidson marketing department realized the potential market for female motorcycle riders. So, the company started to make motorcycle more friendly for women, which was a pioneering work. But, it was not an easy task, because that age was all about men.
In recent years, women have participated in many traditionally male-focused sports, hobbies and activities, such as hunting, fishing and golfing. However, most women even did better than most men. Motorcycle riding is another different and meaningful activities for women, because they can feel free and powerful when they are riding on the back of a Harley. Women who ride a Harley motorcycle are more confident and attractive than they used to be. They ride in the saddle of their own motorcycles and show others that, “I can do this, so can you.” They just believe themselves. Based on the statistics of Motorcycle Industry Council, female motorcycle riders increased 35 percent from 2003 to 2012, and there are 25 percent of all riders are women.
According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the average height of women is 5 feet, 4 inches while men are 5 feet , 9 inches. With the increasing number of women motorcycle riders, most of the motorcycles are made more suitable for women. And most of the bikes can be adjusted and personalized to the bikers’ comfort level to suit themselves. But in order to choose the most comfortable motorcycle, women bikers need to do much work. Firstly, they should enroll in a motorcycle class where they can see all types of motorcycles and they can feel all the bikes. And after that, they will get a better understanding about the size and style of the motorcycle that they want to ride for their first real ride on the road.
Although men and women motorcycle riders are significant different on the motorcycles, they do share several essential reasons of riding, which are enjoying the freedom of the open road, the confidence of themselves and their lives, as well as the independence. Women who live in this era can do whatever they want to do. Riding motorcycles could be the first activity to encourage themselves to do many other things, because it will allow women bikers to feel another beautiful world.
